One or two for the diary...
The Courtauld's Business of Art Society (also known as BoAS) might immediately give the impression that it is a society very focused on the commercial careers of the art history world. BoAS does organise events based on the classically commercial: auction housing, advising and dealership. Yet, alongside this runs a thread of lectures that broaden the whole idea of what the business of art can and does include, like careers in law.
The twinkling fairy lights dangling in the Sackler Research Forum are surprisingly alluring; it looks cozy and ambient. I am sure that was a clever marketing decision partly to lend Vernon Square a warmer aesthetic and centralising it as the new (albeit temporary home) of the Courtauld. At the same time, the festively snug room could partly be to balance the intensely academic ideas that are thrown around inside it. Or maybe I just can’t keep up sometimes.
November’s here and you know what that means, Winter is coming. When it’s cold out, who doesn’t want to be inside exploring the most magical art events London has to offer this November? So, wrap up warm, grab yourself a pumpkin spice latte, and go and check one out.
